WinePod Home Winery
I enjoy the odd bottle..er..glass of wine now and then, but I hardly consume enough to consider making my own. For true oenophiles, however (those of you who were drinking wine before you saw Sideways, for example), Provina is now offering the opportunity to produce wine in the home. Their futuristic-looking, $1,999 WinePod wine making system features temperature control, various chemical monitors, a two-ton wine press so you can skip the grape stomping, and wireless, web-based control.
Bundled with the WinePod is coaching software that will assist with technique particular to your grapes (assuming you get your grapes through Provina...otherwise you're on your own in that territory). One batch will yield you about 60-72 bottles, which is not too shabby. I can't help but wonder if the headache red wine tends to leave me with the next day would feel any better if I made the wine myself. (I'm guessing no.) -[Star C. Foster]
